I think that when I presented my ideas to my classmate I had an idea of what I wanted to do for this project, all I really needed was help with choosing one of my sketches, but they were able to give me more advice that was well appreciated. I want to create a piece that represents my culture, and what better way to do it than by using a typical table game called “ La Loteria”. The most important part of this piece was to incorporate the roots that I am proud of. My group members approved the theme and they thought that using the loteria cards was a great way to represent our culture in a way that hasn’t yet been done. I further explained that I had two ideas, that I could do a folk dress or a more form fitting so to say “ charra dress” both represent a woman body. The more fitted dress represented the evolution of dresses and the how society has been shaped so that even our clothing accentuates the woman body. The tighter the more curves that are shown, and it is said to be more “attractive”. This dressed represented that evolution but how they are still holding on to those original roots. For artistic inspirations I wanted to pick someone who used his or her culture as their main inspiration. In this case I wanted to pick Diego Luna and Frida Kahlo. Frida’s use of colors and Diego’s everyday scenarios really inspired me. My members suggested to stick with the typical folk dress, and it was an opinion that I will highly consider.
The images below are images of the first dress I had created and that ended up not working out. I experimented with just gluing the cards together and having no base, but to every project there must be a frame. Therefore, I restarted my dress and had a much more successful piece.
ACT Questions:
1.) Clearly explain how you are able to identify the cause-effect relationships between your inspiration and its effect upon your work.
The relationship between my inspirations and my art work are very obvious. We both wanted to represent what we are made of and where we come from.
2.) What is the overall approach (point of view) the author (from your research) has regarding the topic of your inspiration?
We both represented the Mexican culture but in quite a different way, Diego Rivera focused on captivating the struggles that the Mexican culture has gone through. On the other hand, I wanted to incorporate a happier side.
3.) What kind of generalizations and conclusions have you discovered about people, ideas, cultures, etc. while you researched your inspirations?
I can make the generalization that most of us Mexicans feel proud of being Mexican. We want to share the culture with others and make them feel part of us.
4.) What was the central idea or theme around your inspirational research?
The central theme of my research was captivating the struggles of the Mexican culture.
5.) What kind of inferences (conclusions reached on the basis of evidence and reasoning) did you make while reading your

My visit to UWM made me realize the importance of documentation.
